01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Kedai Kopi Keng Luan is a charming local coffee shop nestled on the serene Pangkor Island, offering an authentic taste of traditional Malaysian kopitiam culture. This quaint spot at 34, Sungai Pinang Kecil, is a beloved morning haven for both locals and travelers eager to start the day with strong, flavorful coffee and classic breakfast treats.

Step inside and be greeted by the warm, laid-back island vibe that perfectly complements a slow, unhurried breakfast experience. The scent of freshly brewed kopi—rich, fragrant, and distinctly bold—immediately awakens your senses. Regulars like Gio appreciate the strong, less-sweet coffee that holds true to traditional flavors, while Ivy enjoys the slightly sweeter coffee balanced by the smooth tea served here.

The menu proudly features legendary Malaysian kopi shop staples such as kaya toast and roti bakar, and these are truly the star attractions. The kaya toast here is a crowd favorite—a crispy, thinly toasted bread layering luscious, chilled chunks of cold butter with fragrant, sweet coconut egg jam. One can almost taste the contrast between the buttery richness and the sweet, fragrant kaya in every bite. The roti bakar, delightfully thin and golden, pairs perfectly with half-boiled eggs, another breakfast essential that locals and visitors rave about.

But it’s not just the coffee and toasts that make this spot memorable. Just a step away, the adjacent stalls offer tantalizing culinary delights that perfectly complement the kopitiam experience. Seafood noodle enthusiasts are especially drawn to the vivid flavours of the curry seafood noodles recommended by Ming Siong Koh—fragrant, hearty, and evocative of nostalgic school-day lunches. Seng Yee Lee further highlights the variety on offer, praising the clear soup and curry versions for their depth and warmth, with an added shout-out to the kopi C – a creamy, well-rounded coffee that harmonizes wonderfully with the spicy notes of the noodles.

While some visitors mention that the service here reflects the island’s relaxed pace—sometimes a bit slow and occasionally forgetful—this is often seen as part of the authentic charm, allowing guests to truly unwind and soak in the mellow atmosphere. The friendly and welcoming staff add to the convivial spirit, making each visit feel personal and homely.

For anyone visiting Pangkor Island, Kedai Kopi Keng Luan is more than just a coffee stop; it’s a sensory journey into Malaysian kopitiam heritage, blending robust coffee culture, comforting traditional dishes, and authentic island vibes. Whether you’re craving a strong coffee to start the day, a crispy kaya toast to savor the morning, or a bowl of soulful seafood noodles to warm your spirit, this kopitiam promises genuine flavors and memorable moments.

The coffee is pretty strong and not so sweet. The kaya toast is one of the popular items, and i like the bread is crispy toasted with nice cold chunks of butter. The service is slow, and they tend to forget your order, but i guess that is part of island lifestyle. The stall next to it sells good mixed seafood soup.

First time visit for breakfast at this Hainan kopitiam. A lot of customers in the morning. Coffee is a bit sweet, but the tea is nice. We’ve ordered their kaya butter roti and half boiled eggs, the taste is nice. We also tried the noodle stall’s pork noodles, it tastes delicious and very recommended to order.

Came here for breakfast. It's one of the famous Chinese coffee shop which serves noodles soup, toast and half boiled egg. We have tried the noodles soup. Ordered the wantan mee, clear mixed fish soup noodle and another one is something with milk. The mixed fish soup noodles is nice. different kinds of fish meat came with the noodles. All were fresh and sweet. I like the one where the soup is a bit milky. (Just search for the word 奶 in the menu, that's the one). The fish soup is refreshing, with a subtle milk taste in the soup. The price is considered quite reasonable in Pangkor Island. The service was not very fast. So expect an hour here for a simple breakfast. There is no parking here, so you are advised to park somewhere else and walk here.

A very traditional coffee shop in Pangkor. The seafood noodles and curry noodles are quite nice. However, I was a bit disappointed with the coffee and teh, as they were a bit diluted.

A local hideout with crunchy toast, authentic local coffee and cooked noodle dishes of sorts. Transports you back in time, somehow. A nice place for breakfast to blend in with the local Chinese folks.
